Gerry is a not-quite-retired senior executive with 40 years experience in the catalog and online direct marketing industry, with a focus on marketing graphic arts, publication and other art products. After many years of dabbling in stained glass, intarcia, copper enameling, wood carving, sculpture, dichroic glass, lapidary arts, jewelry making, flint knapping, and various other art forms, he discovered wood turning. As a latent lathest, he finally found a medium and tool that keeps him turning. “I bought a lathe for my kids to learn to make things with,” says Gerry, “I had the unrealistic expectation that if I could find a craft for them to do with the hands, they wouldn’t spend so much time playing video games. It didn’t quite work out that way.” Not to be outdone and keeping it in the family, Laurie demanded equal time on the lathe to develop her own considerable turning skills. Together they are the creative staff, product development directors, art show team, marketing, finance, order taking, packaging, shipping, purchasing, and manufacturing departments of Evergreen Mountain Pens (and whatever else they are in the mood to turn on the lathes). “I love being a full-time mother, full-time hyper-active community volunteer, and horse show mom,” says Laurie, “but I also love the art fairs and all the other pen manufacturing activities.”
